Having always had a passion for fabric, texture and colour Nicky realised that she would like to pursue this further. Before her first visit to Indonesia she researched the crafts local to the area and discovered that hand weaving Ikat fabric is integral to the culture on the Indonesian Island of Lombok. Nicky was able to visit the weavers in person. Ikat is woven by the men in the afternoons once they have finished work in the rice fields. Having returned with bundles of this unique and high quality woven fabric she began to create handmade furnishings. The first throw made from this fabric was as a gift for a friends’ birthday – they loved it both for its colours and also that it had been handmade and so started the Ikat collection. I have since developed two other collections of throws and cushions one hand knitted and the other of linen/cotton.
